i can't see myself ever getting over the thrill of spying a few first sparse, stray snowflakes that eventually give way to full-on snowfall.
a few nights ago i worked for a few hours at a nearby café, sipping a glass of moretti on tap, and afterwards drove back up the hill in a light flurry that looked like a swirly van gogh painting come to life. the snowflakes flying at the windshield through the dark filled me with inexplicable momentary delight even though my life has been feeling about as solid as falling snow.
the climate change between dry season in costa rica and winter in colorado wasn't as big a shock as it could've been, since i broke it up with a week in california. but there's a funny disconnect as i write about humid tropical hardwood forests while looking out the window at snow-frosted hillsides.
